Rays

Publishing Project

With Pele Projects

2021-2023

Rays is a new body of work created in collaboration with Pele Prints (St. Louis, Missouri, USA). I have collaborated with Amanda Verbeck at Pele Prints for over a dozen years, consistently printing large-scale monoprint projects and commissions for collections around the world.

Typically, I work as an artist-in-residence at Pele Prints about once each year. During this time we work in a furious flurry of energy for 7-8 days, producing 30-40 new large-scale monoprints.

Rays is the first printing project we have created in a mostly remote style without being in the studio alongside each other, physically making the work together.

Through this project, Pele Prints and I have learned how to use each others eyes to see and describe the work, because camera photos don’t always depict how a new print feels. We have also worked with a new level of patience with the overall printing process.

With similar patience and a deep understanding of time, the Rays series depicts the idea of timeless landscapes. In these landscapes, the sun slow-dances across the earth’s horizon, reaching downward to greet the earth as it grows upward, reaching in turn, towards the sun.
